My Best of Daisen

Hi! My name is Ivy. I am a vegetarian and I love to dine out! But it certainly is not easy to find vegetarian food in Japan. Luckily, Daisen has a few places where I have been able find food that I can and enjoy to eat.

Indian curry

Indian restaurants always have vegetarian options and the Indian curry place in Omagari is my go-to place when I feel like having hot, savoury food. Their vegetarian options include palak and vegetable curry. But my favourite food there are their Anko-Cheezu( Red bean and cheese) and Iburigakko-Cheezu (Smoked radish pickle with cheese) because they are just simply the best Indian-Japanese fusion dishes!


I love exploring menus for baking ideas, and there are so many cafés in Daisen City where I can try new things! I found a new café which serves blue cheese and fig crepe and pistachio cream with pear crepe. I was really surprised because these are European flavours which I had never seen in Japan until I went to this café. I am so glad that Daisen City has so many wonderful cafés which offer a taste of foreign food.

Shoyu soft serve

When I first saw the name, I was very curious about what it would taste like. I love trying new food and flavours, so without any hesitation, I tried it! To me, it doesn’t taste like soya sauce. It tastes more like salt & caramel, and I love it!


I didn’t use to like it, but ever since I tried the Iburigakko-Cheese naan from an Indian curry place in Daisen, I fell in love with the combination of Cheese, bread and Iburigakko. I love it so much I have come up with my own recipes for Iburigakko & Cheese bread, and Iburigakko & Cheese muffins! I have asked a few locals to try my muffins and they loved it! For those adventure-loving bakers, here is my recipe for Iburigakko & Cheese muffins:

Ingredients for up to 10 muffins

2 large eggs (room temperature!)

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup olive oil

3/4 cup flour

1 tbsp milk powder

1.5 tsp baking powder

2.5 tbsp finely chopped Iburigakko

1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 180 C Celsius.
  2. Sift milk powder, baking powder and flour into a bowl
  3. Beat eggs until soft peak with an electronic mixer (about 2 minutes) then gradually beat in sugar into eggs. Beat until egg mixture reaches stiff peak and is very fluffy. (About 10 minutes, egg volume should increase about 6 to 8 times)
  4. Add oil to egg mixture
  5. Gently fold flour mixture into egg mixture
  6. Pour batter into muffin tins and bake for 15 minutes or until muffins are golden and the skewer comes out clean when you insert into the centre of the muffin.
